Woodworm infestation, can cause damage to timbers, rafters and furniture using the timber as a source of food.
The three major species of woodworm that cause damage to timber in buildings are:
Common Furniture Beetle (Anobium punctatum) ‘Woodworm’,
Wood Boring Weevil (Euophryum confine)
House Longhorn Beetle (Hylotrupes bajulus).
Woodworm attack untreated timber in your home; your roof, flooring and furniture can be affected.
The tell-tale holes are the result of the beetle grubs boring through the roofing and flooring timbers or any timber in the area. If left untreated the grubs can weaken the tensile strength of structural timbers and this can result in floors or roofs collapsing.
We cannot stress enough the importance of early intervention as the damage caused can be severe and costly.
If you spot any of signs of woodworm, then we recommend a free property survey from RH Preservation. This will identify the issue, the type of beetle, the extent of the infestation and whether it is active.
A RH Preservation woodworm treatment includes:
- Identify the species involved
- Determine the extent of the damage and identify any timbers that may need replacing
- Select the relevant woodworm treatment; water based, fogging or fumigation.
- Carry out all treatment and repairs with a smile on our face.
- Leave the area clean and tidy
